Earthworks Supervision, Somerset

A new road, to be adopted by the County Council, was to be constructed as part of a proposed residential estate. The road was to be built on poor ground that required improvement prior to road construction.

Based on data obtained from in-situ and laboratory testing, a Method Statement for the Earthworks was produced. This enabled site won materials to be re-used without the need to import material for recompaction, which saved both costs and time.

The Earthworks were supervised and validated by Ruddlesden geotechnical and approval was obtained by the Council prior to their adoption of the road.

In-situ testing methods used on this site included California Bearing Ratio (CBR), sand replacement (density) and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP).
